Travelling fitness

kristaeiffel
I am at the beginning of a month long trip. To be honest I was a little terrified of how on earth I was going to keep up and hopefully, exceed my current level of fitness while I was away.
Here are a few things I have found most helpful..
Having a goal.  I have some big competitions coming up not too long after I get back so they are at the forefront of my motivation, this was a huge help. I also set up some fun goals which I knew I could work on while away.. Handstand walking, push ups, pistols, double unders, triple unders, candle sticks.. The choices are endless!
Long haul flying.. Never a particularly awesome experience but can be made quite bareable relatively easily!
- 10 squats every time you go to the bathroom, I can't remember who told me this but I have used it ever since. It is AWESOME.
- sitting in a squat while waiting in the bathroom cue is also awesome, you get a few funny looks but I like to think that they are just upset that they too can't be sitting down here with me.. Feeling awesome :)
- LAX ball and voodoo floss: the must haves in your carry on. The ball is incredible to sit on when your butt starts to ache and the floss is incredible for your legs and arms
- ordering gluten free meals, not only does this save you from eating the awful bread (that looks o so delicious because it's the first bun I've seen in months) BUT it means you get your meal before everyone else! Winning!
Reaching your destination.. The best things I've ever done is head to a gym for a workout before the day is out. If this isn't possible a short 3-6min AMRAP is really all you need to get your muscles moving and help you sleep.
Starting the day with a workout - it is incredibly easy to feel exhausted by the end of a day whether is a holiday or business trip, get your workout done in the morning! Don't allow for the 'I'm too tired' excuse.
Improvise! This is where I have the most fun when travelling.
What can I jump on? Is there something I can hold to weight my squats? How about sprinting up those set of stairs?
Get your coach to give you some workouts ideas and schedule them in, commit to doing a particular one on particular days.. Just like you would do at home.. Too much choice opens the door for 'this is too hard'.
Happy travelling everyone!

Gymnastics - why are they important and why do we incorporate them quite so much into our drills and skills? I love this topic! I started really getting into gymnastics, and incorporating them more into my own training since my knee injury last year, because I found this was the one area I could still…
