Krista caught up with Troy Kennedy recently to see what makes hime tick...  read on!!

How long have you been a member at Reebok CrossFit 09? 

I joined RCF09 in November 2013. That felt like the day the world began!

How did you end up walking through our doors for the first time? Was there a pivotal event that led you to us? 

I was bored of conventional training.  I had gym memberships that seemed to gather dust and didn’t find the gym all that enjoyable anymore, additionally I lacked a little motivation to push myself!  I also have a brother who is a member at CFNZ who constantly raved to me about how good CrossFit was, it sold me!

Can you remember your first CrossFit experience? What was it like and how did you feel? Excited? Nervous? 

I clearly remember my first into class, the people were so nice and movements I thought would be quite easy when performed properly were quite difficult.  I remember after my first few squats thinking I was about as flexible as a piece of wood! My first big kids class included man makers.  To this day I think they are one of the hardest exercises we do. 

What are your favourite training shoes? 

I currently have some Nike’s that need an upgrade.  I look forward to the next pair being some Reebok’s.....

What are you doing when you aren't CrossFitting? 

I have just started another season of Rugby playing in the under 85kg grade which is a lot of fun.  I don’t mind the odd spot of fishing and hack on the golf course.

What has been one of the biggest things in your life that has changed since starting CrossFit? 

CrossFit has allowed me to concentrate on a much wider array of muscle groups.  Previously with my own training I would only concentrate on a select number of areas.

What is your favourite CrossFit exercise and describe your perfect workout? 

I quite like the push press as it requires quite a lot of concentration so you don’t take out your chin.  I prefer a WOD of 7m – 8m in length with no breaks, 4 different exercises where you can just really push yourself to the limit.

What is your athletic background? 

I don’t mind running and have completed a couple of marathons over the past few years and have played rugby since I was knee high to a grasshopper.  I played for the Auckland under 85’s before I moved overseas.

Is there a Reebok CrossFit 09 member who inspires you? 

Arama is always there and constantly seems to have a long list if PB’s next to his name on the white board.

Greatest CrossFit accomplishment to date? 

Hang power clean. It only gets easier with practise!   

What would you like to have achieved at Reebok CrossFit 09 a year from now? 

To date I have stuck to the Fitness workout. I would be keen to nail some of the Performance ones at some stage in the future.

Interesting fact about yourself that most people may not know?

 I did my yard glass in 50 seconds!
