Simone has been on the New Zealand CrossFit scene almost from the beginning. A recent move has her kicking around 09 a bit, versus her original home at CFNZ, so we thought we'd let you learn a little more about her.
How did you first discover CrossFit?
It would have been 2009 when I found out about CrossFit on the bodybuilding.com
site through an athlete I read an article on, and was inspired by.
I lived in Hamilton back then so got a CrossFit programme from this athlete, and did my best to complete it at my Globo gym (people would give me interesting looks as you can imagine.....). When I came up to Auckland on practicum I did a bit of research online and found out about CrossFit NZ so went to the old CFNZ for a short 8 week period but loved every minute of it. After moving back to Auckland I then rejoined CrossFit NZ a year and a half ago.
A recent move to Mt Roskill now means I'm training at 09 a bit too!
What's the best thing about training at Reebok CrossFit 09?
Being amongst all the awesome peeps, it makes working out suck way less, and makes me push harder too with my buddies and coaches encouragement.
Greatest CrossFit accomplishment to date?
Got anything flattering to say about our coaches?
They're awesome, genuine, fun, inspiring, knowledgable, caring, and just great down-to-earth people.
What kind of music / favorite song you like listening to during a workout?
Hip-hop and house
I'm liking Sean Paul - 'Want dem All' at the moment!!
Do you have any pre-workout rituals? If so, what are they?
Not really, normally just have a bit of a wiggle to the music or joke about as much as possible before the pain begins.
What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
I like bar muscle-ups for their fun factor, and squats and thrusters as they are my strengths.
Can you remember the first workout? What was it like?
I can't remember it very well... I think it involved box jumps. It definitely hurt a lot, but I loved the intensity and challenge.
Interesting fact about yourself that most people may not know?
I have flat feet, they're like flippers. And I also enjoy complex mathematical problem solving equations, and tutored maths for around 6 years.
