Member Profile – Craig Bailey

craigb_clean
Nira had a yarn to Craig Bailey recently.  Craig has been with us for a few years now, he first checked us out way back when we were on Pilkington Road.
He is now one of our Daywalkers, those able to move effortlessly between our facilities at RCF09 and CFNZ.  So today Craig, you get your profile on BOTH gym pages!
How were you introduced to CrossFit and CFNZ/RCF09?
I was first introduced to CrossFit around 2009 where I started to use some bodyweight metcon type stuff to supplement my ‘poser’ lifting.  Ended up joining CFNZ in June 2011 and, after moving into Ponsonby late last year, transferred to 09 a couple of months ago.
What do you like most about being a member at CFNZ/09?
Positive atmosphere with friendly people.
Greatest CrossFit accomplishment to date?
Still turning up after three years although, I admit, it’s a little more sporadic of late.  The multidimensional nature of CrossFit means that there is always plenty to work on so I keep coming back.
What do you think about our coach's?
I have full faith in their knowledge and dedication in helping us to move better.  Any correction they make is a great opportunity to get better.
What kind of music / favourite song you like listening to during a WOD?
It doesn’t really bother me all that much although token gym pop-techno is overproduced and really just plastic to the ears.  If I’m lifting by myself it’s usually old school east coast or Detroit based rap, or I’ll listen to something I’ve been meaning to hear.  Last time out was Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis.
Do you have any workout rituals?
Pacing around some and shaking out my hands.
What is your favourite  exercise?
Oly lifting and pull ups.
Can you remember the first workout? What was it like?
I recall going to a free trial session with my sister around October 2010 and being put through a pretty standard burpees/situps/airsquats./run metcon.  I remember pushing pretty hard and being really green afterwards.
Interesting fact about yourself that most people may not know?
Played American football for 10 years, spending 4 years with the national team and coaching school age kids.  Minored in ethnomusicology and contribute articles to websites concerning all things boxing/mma/kickboxing.
