Member Profile – Adam Buckland


Coach Nira had a yarn with one of his ex-CrossFit Canterbury members for todays member profile.

How were you introduced to CrossFit and RCF09?

I started crossfit down in Christchurch and when I moved up I asked one of the coaches (our very own Nira) which Auckland gyms I should try. He mentioned Crossfit NZ and when I looked it up they had just opened up 09 down the road from me. Too easy

What do you like most about being a member at RCF09?

I like that 09 has only just started up so everyone knows each other. Its building into a cool little community.

Greatest CrossFit accomplishment to date? 

Got to be finally getting a muscle up recently, I have been trying to nail that one out for a while now

What do you think about our coaches?

What more can I say besides they are awesome. Think it is great how they are all so focussed on technique and form rather than weight or completing a WOD quickly.

What kind of music / favorite song you like listening to during a WOD?

I find that something hard and fast always gets me pumped. Can’t go past a bit of Tool to get you in the mood

Do you have any pre-WOD rituals? If so, what are they?

Just try and warm up my dickey shoulders as much as possible

What is your favourite Crossfit exercise?

Hands down it is heavy back squats

Can you remember the first workout? What was it like?

Pretty sure it was a 10min AMRAP of pull ups, push ups, box jumps and 200m sprints. I probably spent more time lying on the ground afterwards

Interesting fact about yourself that most people may not know?

Growing up I lived in the Solomon islands for a year and a half. Didn’t wear a pair of shoes once.
